Resolution pathway

How does family mediation work?

At Ellie Newbery Mediation, based in the picturesque surroundings of Fernhurst, I specialise in providing expert mediation services for families going through divorce or separation. My goal is to offer compassionate, cost effective and effective guidance, particularly for situations involving children, ensuring that the best interests of the family are considered.

Step 1

Mediation Information and Assessment Meeting (MIAM)

A 1 hour session with you each individually so I can understand what you are facing and any worries you have, and for you to understand the mediation process and ensure that mediation with me is the right path for both of you, or what other options might be better.  We can consider together how to best tailor the mediation to suit your family.

Step 2

Agreeing to Mediate

The first joint meeting where we sign an Agreement to Mediate and agree your priorities for the following sessions, including a discussion about financial disclosure and how you would both like to do this.  This lays the foundations for the work ahead.

Step 3

Joint Sessions

We will have as many 1.5 hour sessions as you need to make decisions together.  I will put the structure in place to enable you to be able to make informed decisions and will let you know if it would be useful to have some help from other experts, such as solicitors, accountants or pension advisors.  The joint sessions can be by shuttle or using hybrid mediation if that will work best for your family.

Step 4

Reaching an outcome and next steps

Once you have reached agreement on sharing your finances then I will draw that up into a Memorandum of Understanding and those who have children may like a written Parenting Plan.  I will let you know about next steps about how to have an agreement made into an order if that is what you would like.
